Frequently Asked Questions

New Clients

We don’t offer drop-in / single classes I’m afraid. If you are a new client, we recommend buying our Taster Pack. It costs £35.00 for two group classes. It allows you to try us out before committing to a Membership. Please note this pack expires 21 days from the date of purchase. You can’t use them to book classes that form part of a course e.g. Beginner Course or Back Pain Course as these run separately to our timetable of group classes.

Beginners are welcome to join any of our group classes except our Intermediate class. Our pace of teaching is slow to moderate regardless of level and we find many clients are able to learn exercises alongside existing clients who have practiced with us before. This said, you might prefer to try our Mat or Mat & Small Equipment classes first, rather than our Mat/Tower hybrid classes which use our spring-loaded Towers and can be daunting for a new starter. You might also prefer to join one of our dedicated Beginner Courses. These start at various intervals throughout the year. By enrolling in a course, you commit to attending at the same time each week for the duration of the course. If you have any concerns about injury or just feel you’d benefit from a gentle introduction, we recommend booking one or two private sessions (1:1 / 2:1) first.

New clients are welcome to join Group Classes at any time! It doesn’t matter if we’re in the middle of a term – we’ll find you a space if we can. We recommend new clients purchase a Taster Class Membership. It’s two class credits for £35, to use within 21 days from date of purchase. This allows you to try group classes before committing to a Membership. New clients wanting to then join classes may (by arrangement) buy a pro-rated Membership, if our choice of Flexible Memberships don’t meet your needs. Get in touch to discuss your requirements and we’ll try and accommodate you.

Beginner Classes and Back Pain Classes are run as part of a dedicated course. The courses have pre-defined start and end dates and provide progression through the course. Taster Packs allow clients who are new to the studio the opportunity to try some of the classes from our timetable of group classes.

I’m afraid our classes aren’t suitable for pregnant clients who are new to Pilates. We need to provide lots of modifications for pregnant clients to exercise safely and comfortably and if you don’t know the exercises, it’s better that you join a dedicated pre-natal Pilates class where you with learn with other clients who are also pregnant. We’re a very small studio and don’t currently offer these I’m afraid. If you’ve practiced Pilates lots before, we can accommodate you in our classes, with the exception of our Intermediate class. You’ll need medical sign off by your GP or Midwife to participate.

We provide mats and all small equipment, but feel free to bring your own mat if you prefer. You can lay this over our mats if you like. Our mats and equipment are cleaned after each use with disinfecting spray.

Please wear what you are comfortable in that doesn’t restrict your movement. Most clients wear leggings, shorts or jogging bottoms and a vest, t-shirt or long sleeve top depending on the weather. It can get a little chilly in winter so we’d suggest bringing a warmer layer to wear until you warm up. No need for trainers – the studio has a no-shoes policy, so shoes are left at the front door. We wear clean socks or clean bare feet!

We recommend arriving ready to exercise if you can, but there is a small W.C. in the studio if you need to get changed before your class. There are full changing and shower facilities over in the main hall used by the Victoria Park Harriers (running club) if needed.

We pride ourselves in working only with highly qualified Pilates teachers to teach our group classes and private sessions. All have spent many months and even years gaining their initial certification to instruct Mat Pilates. In the years that follow, our teachers build upon a founding education, certify to teach large studio equipment (including but not limited to the Reformer!) and can accommodate clients with all manner of injuries and chronic conditions. Unless you have acute pain or have been advised against exercise by a medical practitioner then we can probably teach you Pilates. All clients are required to submit a confidential Health Questionnaire at least 24 hours before their first class/session. This form is screened for suitability to attend our classes/sessions. If we’re unsure of anything you’ve disclosed, we’ll contact you as soon as possible to discuss your medical background and exercise needs in more detail. If we think you’d benefit from modifications to the exercises taught in a typical group classes, we’ll recommend one (or more) 1:1 private sessions to help you get started, before later joining a group class.

Private sessions need to be arranged via email in advance, at least one week before a preferred slot. We only offer private sessions when the studio isn’t in use for our group classes – as such we don’t guarantee we’ll be able to accommodate you. It also depends on teacher availability as their schedules can vary from week to week. We’ll do our best to arrange something though!

Please let us know if you have a particular day/time that works best for you. Let us know if you’ve practiced Pilates before, and if so, do you wish to train using our studio equipment such as the Reformer, Chair, Cadillac? Please also let us know if you have any long standing injuries or specific goals.

We offer classes to clients with many chronic conditions and injuries, however our studio is situated on the first floor of an old Victorian Schoolhouse. The only access to the studio is up an external flight of winding stone steps which could be difficult for anyone with access needs. Many of our exercises are taught down on a floor mat and clients need to be able to manoeuvre from standing to supine and vice versa.

I’m afraid we don’t. We work hard to keep our prices are low as possible for all clients whilst remaining commercial as a small, independent business. Our class sizes are very small and we just don’t have the margins to offer large discounts. Our prices are favourable when compared with other local studios! All clients can take advantage of time-limited Earlybird discounts that are advertised ahead of each term for advance purchase of Memberships and Courses.

Yes, absolutely. We can sell gift vouchers to any value of your choosing and send you a printable voucher to put in a card to present to your friend/partner. Payment for gift vouchers are made via BACS to our business bank account – details can be provided. If the recipient already has a customer account with us, we’ll add the value of your gift onto their account as an account credit. They simply redeem this against a future purchase. If the recipient is new to our studio, they can scan the QR code on the printable Gift Voucher to create a new customer account. We’ll then add the value of your gift as an account credit for them to redeem against a Membership of their choosing.

I’m sorry you can’t attend a class you’ve registered for. The cancellation deadline for group classes is 12 hours. If you cancel less than 12 hours before a class start time, we can’t unfortunately re-credit your class. i.e. your class is forfeited.

If you haven’t already Unregistered from the class via your TeamUp Customer Account, please do so  – it automatically lets your teacher you won’t be there. Please do this even if you’ve missed the cancellation deadline and are a “late cancel”. Having an accurate class register prevents a teacher from preparing a mat and equipment for you and helps the class to start promptly. Log into your account and go the the Schedule page or My Account.

In the event you can’t attend a particular week, all course attendees are welcome to arrange one “make-up” class i.e. You may attend a class on the Group Class timetable instead, subject to space. To arrange this, please Unregister in advance via your Customer Account for the course date you’ll miss and then email us to request a make-up class.

A credit will be added to your customer account. The expiry date of your make-up class will reflect the final date of your course i.e. make-up classes can’t be extended beyond the completion date of the course you signed up for. “No-Shows” won’t be granted a make-up class. Subsequent missed classes are also forfeited and can’t be substituted with other classes, nor do we provide refunds or carry-over of missed classes to future courses/terms.

Unused class credits can’t be carried over to subsequent terms or courses, we’re very sorry. Our only exception is when a class you registered for didn’t take place due to cancellation by Victoria Park Pilates, and you weren’t able to use the credit before it expired. In this instance, we’ll ensure you never lose a class credit and will add a credit onto your account with a future expiry date.

Our Workshops are booked as standalone extended-length sessions and are non-transferable and non-refundable I’m afraid. If the workshop is fully booked and other clients are on the Waitlist, we might be able to release a space to another client. If so, we’ll get in touch and arrange an account credit for you to use towards another purchase. This could be a different workshop if you wish. You will need to unregister from the workshop first though – please do this via your customer account in the normal way. You can look at the Schedule page or go onto your My Account tab to do this.

Yes, most definitely – you can top up any membership if you run out of or low on credits towards the end of term. The rate you’ll pay will be a pro-rated price based on the original price per class of your Membership. This excludes any Earlybird promotions you might have qualified for when you purchased your Membership. Please let us know how many extra class credits you’d like and we’ll go from there.

Class credits are non-refundable and non-transferable I’m afraid. We can make an exception between family members who wish to redistribute unused credits to a partner/spouse, providing both are existing clients of Victoria Park Pilates and hold current Memberships, and both live at the same address. i.e. this applies if one family member has more credits than they need, and the other wishes to attend more classes but has run low.

You can always upgrade a Membership to one with more class credits on it. It’s much simpler for us to refund your original purchase though, and for you purchase your new Membership with the desired number of credits on it.

If you’ve already registered for classes with your membership, these will get cancelled off automatically when we cancel the membership. It means you need to re-register for classes again, once you’ve purchased your upgraded Membership. Please let us know if this is how you want to proceed. We can process a refund quickly but the funds may take a few days for our card merchant to process and to reach your credit/debit card.

Yes, why not… we can sell you a Guest Pass. Just email us with the class date/time you’d like to bring your friend to and we’ll be in touch.
